Epistra and Evident Co-develop “FLUOVIEW Smart™,” an AI-Powered Software Revolutionizing Confocal Microscopy

Launch of the next-generation confocal laser scanning microscope “FLUOVIEW™ FV5000” featuring the AI-assisted software “FLUOVIEW Smart™”

Tokyo, Japan — November 18, 2025 — Epistra announced that it has co-developed, together with Evident, an AI object search system designed to streamline microscope operation and improve user experience.

The system is incorporated into “FLUOVIEW Smart™,” an AI-assisted software installed in the next-generation confocal and multiphoton laser scanning microscope “FLUOVIEW™ FV5000,” which was released by Evident on October 29, 2025.

Next-Generation Confocal and Multiphoton Laser Scanning Microscope “FLUOVIEW™ FV5000”

Development Background

Confocal and multiphoton laser scanning microscopes are essential tools in life science research, enabling high-resolution, three-dimensional visualization of cellular and tissue structures. They play a critical role in supporting research quality and reproducibility across disciplines such as cell biology, neuroscience, and developmental biology.

As imaging technologies have advanced, modern confocal microscopes have become increasingly multifunctional, offering greater flexibility in imaging conditions. However, this evolution has also made software interfaces more complex, often making it difficult for new users to master the operation and leading to inefficiencies in experiment setup and operation.

To address these challenges, Evident and Epistra jointly developed a new AI-assisted system aimed at simplifying microscopy workflows and enabling seamless imaging for users of all experience levels. By combining Epistra’s mathematical optimization and image analysis expertise with Evident’s advanced optical technologies, the two companies created “FLUOVIEW Smart™,” an AI-driven software solution that allows researchers to capture high-quality images quickly and intuitively.

FLUOVIEW Smart™

FLUOVIEW Smart™ is an AI-assisted software developed by Evident and implemented in the company’s latest microscope system, FLUOVIEW™ FV5000.

Designed to optimize the user experience, the software automates key steps—from sample setup to image acquisition—greatly reducing manual operations and improving efficiency.

FLUOVIEW Smart™ automatically detects sample positions and structures, accurately identifies regions of interest, and optimizes laser power and imaging parameters. As a result, initialization and adjustment processes that previously required several minutes can now be completed in under one minute with a single click.

This feature not only enables novice users to obtain high-quality images effortlessly, but also helps experienced researchers improve efficiency and maintain reproducibility across experiments.

Epistra developed the AI-based object detection system that serves as the core of FLUOVIEW Smart™. The system automatically detects specimen regions from low-magnification images and transitions seamlessly to high-magnification views for detailed imaging, enabling consistent, high-quality observations regardless of user experience.

This system incorporates Epistra’s proprietary condition optimization technology, “Epistra Accelerate™,” which uses Bayesian optimization algorithms to automatically adjust imaging parameters such as illumination and laser power, resulting in stable and reproducible image quality.

Through the integration of Epistra’s AI technologies and Evident’s optical engineering, FLUOVIEW Smart™ redefines the microscopy experience, making confocal imaging more intuitive, efficient, and accessible to all researchers.
